<image:caption>Confessions of a Killer BBC Confessions of a Killer is a BBC true-crime documentary series that explores the real-life double murder of Lesley Howell and Trevor Buchanan. The two-part programme examines the case through previously unheard confession recordings, interviews, and detailed investigation of the events surrounding the killings. At the centre of the story is dentist Colin Howell, who confessed in 2009 to murdering his wife and his lover’s husband in 1991, after their deaths had long been believed to be the result of a suicide pact. The series reconstructs the crime and its aftermath, including Howell’s motives, the involvement of his lover Hazel Stewart, and the emotional impact on the victims’ families. By combining police evidence, expert commentary and personal testimony, the documentary explores how the murders were concealed for nearly two decades and why Howell ultimately chose to confess. It also reflects on the wider consequences of the case, including legal proceedings and the lasting effects on those closest to the victims.</image:caption>
